Beautiful Batanes Isles: My Heaven on Earth

During my younger yuppie days that I have chosen to build my career and save a large amount for travel, Batanes was the destination on top of the list. I tried to book a flight 2 years ago but I could not get a seat for the return flight that will fit my working schedule. I stopped dreaming about Batanes. I went to nearer Babuyan Islands, Calayan, Fuga, Barit & Mabag instead. When the chance came, I readily reserved so I can fly. I have always said I would like to “live” in Batanes, for a long time. Living in an island had been so enticing to me. Having spent my life in the city since birth seemed to have made me long for a quieter surrounding as I gain more years to exist.

That feeling of excitement when one goes on a solo travel is more than the feeling of having butterflies in one’s tummy. At last Batanes!

Going uphill to see the rolling hills in Basco, Batanes in a motorcycle not only made my heart leap but it is a confirmation that I am finally riding in tandem again, just the way I like to travel. The winds touching my cheeks, my skin, with my hairbraids and beads swaying...blah blah blah. It is time to STOP, look, and listen. All I can do is breeeeeathe... and close my eyes. I never browse though photos that can be found online of the places I go to. All that I see comes to me as a pleasant surprise. And that feeling is simply splendid.

I do not just glimpse. I savour the places I go to. I sit down, walk, run, take a nap, and stay many hours. And forget to take more photos.

The list of adjectives is not enough to describe my feeling. Having a long time of hardwork that limited me to travel the Journeying Pinay way is just one reason why I had to make the most of my sense of liberty at this moment. Spell Happy-ness. My heart is over bursting with joy.

My heaven on earth. Batanes Isles.

Trip to Batanes Isles was on December 30, 2013 to January 11, 2014.
