La Union: The Circle Hostel's Random and Wonderful Bits

Choosing to pack & go is an easy decision. Leaping to a pink Florida bus going to La Union is exciting as it is like a comeback for me to travel the roads to North Luzon again. The almost 8-hour trip from Manila courtesy of a safe slow driver is a test of patience. Not knowing where to drop off is my usual brainless attitude when I travel. I am always confident that I will cross the bridge when I get there. And my "Asking Skills" would always lead me to the right path.

Oops. Missing the Urbiztondo Grill  along the highway is not intentional and being in San Juan Plaza is a relief. I know the tricycle drivers know where The Circle Hostel is located. Oops. They do not know.

How can anyone from San Juan not know this cool, colorful, and amazing bunk hostel at the end of the road? Where a huge mango tree drops its  mango fruits randomly on the gravel-laden ground? And the best part is, you can have the mangoes you pick for free. I had not one,but two.Freshly sweet.

C'mon. How can anyone not like to stay in this rough, unique, open home? Larry, the caretaker is accommodating. The colors that make this native-looking huts bright would simply lift your heavy-laden weekday into a wonderful escape from the squares of corporate and city living.

The skeleton wooden beds cushioned with a little softness gives a nature's sleep. The little flying insects couldn't get near you as the dainty white net tries to protect in your sleep. The showers cool down the body after coming from the nearby San Juan surf-y beach. This is where one's lazy-ness deserve a hammock. Like the surf boards that lay on the ground, restless, waiting to go surfing when the waves are up! This is where you let a door open; where you open your heart to yoga, new friendships that you wish would never end.

The Circle Hostel is more than a surfer sanctuary. It is a place of random people, categories, countless laughter, and unique experiences. More than the bunks, there are cool personal art works everywhere you see, expressions of authentic freedom from travelers' souls. Each phrase and drawing is heartwarming and will raise your dead spirits to high and continue singing, living, loving, and surfing, even without the waves on a calm sea day.

It is a hide-away. Hide from the prisms of the city, and be away from the hexagons of the malls. Anyway, every living soul deserves the circle of life.

Experience that here with random people that you meet in The Circle Hostel in San Juan, La Union. And bring back the colors into your life!

Just Enjoy Life!
